4.1 Program Overview
Tokai University School of Medicine welcomes visiting medical students from our affiliated partner institutions for clinical electives at our Isehara campus and main University Hospital. The program provides exposure to Japanese medical practice, medical education, and culture.
We currently accept visiting students from affiliated institutions only.
4.2 Eligibility
- Final-year medical (MD) students enrolled at one of our affiliated partner institutions (see section 4.9)
- Non-Japanese citizens (or non-permanent residents) classified as international students
- Adequate English-language proficiency for clinical observation and case discussion
4.3 Program Structure
- Rotation length: 1 to 3 months, aligned with the visiting student's home-institution elective calendar
- Format: Observation-style training
- Orientation at the beginning of rotation period
- All placements commence on the first Monday of the rotation period
4.4 Required Documents
All documents must be submitted by the application deadline, usually 6-months prior to beginning of clinical electives. Submission instructions will be provided by the International Affairs Office upon initial enquiry.

- Letter of recommendation from the Dean of your home medical school
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Statement of purpose
- Academic transcript (in English)
- Copy of passport (bio-data page)
- Recent passport-style photograph (within 6 months)
- Immunization records — with antibody titer results
- Proof of overseas travel and medical insurance (see 4.6)
4.5 Insurance Requirements
All visiting students must enroll in overseas travel and medical insurance covering the entire stay, including personal liability coverage.
