1.1 Tokai University
・Establishment
Tokai University is a private university founded in 1942 by Dr. Shigeyoshi Matsumae (1901–1991). The name TOKAI ("Eastern Sea") refers to the Pacific Ocean — the sea east of the Eurasian continent. Founder Matsumae believed that scientific and cultural activities, alongside international exchange, are vital for cultivating human intelligence and building world peace.
・Founder's Mission
"Our mission is not only to establish a university, but also to build a peaceful nation and thus contribute to world peace. In order for Japan, which is not blessed with natural resources, to contribute to the world and peace, it must become a technologically advanced nation through original research and technology development."
— Dr. Shigeyoshi Matsumae, Founder
